Geneva - Nearly all the passengers of an overcrowded boat carrying 600 African migrants from Libya to Europe were killed when the ship sank not far from the port of Tripoli.
The UN has accused the Libyan government was involved in smuggling the increasing number of refugees that ended with deadly incident. Most of the refugees is a worker from sub-Saharan Africa who moved to Libya to look for before war finally broke out in the country in March.
Several international organizations, said recently a number of migrant residents were forced at gunpoint to climb the ship full of dangerous cargo.
However, a spokesman for Moammar Gaddafi declared, rising illegal immigration is a result of European countries that provide military and political support at the Libyan rebels who want to overthrow the Libyan leader.
"Because of NATO aggression on our country and because the coast guard our border under attack every day, we were not able to overcome this situation and that is why Europe was flooded with illegal immigration. We can not be guardians of Europe today, "said the Libyan government spokesman Ibrahim Moussa was quoted as saying by the Associated Press on Wednesday (11/05/2011).
