The 2011 Lincoln MKZ Hybrid is classified as a luxury sedan. However, the vehicle's overall structure comes from its predecessor, the Ford Fusion. Even though the MKZ is available in front wheel drive (FWD) and all wheel drive (AWD) versions, the MKZ Hybrid is only available in the FWD version. This vehicle comes with only one available trim style, but there are several optional packages that provide additional style and driver comforts.
The Hybrid MKZ is the most fuel efficient of the variants, boasting an EPA rating of 41 miles per gallon (MPG) city, 36 MPG highway, and 39 combined MPG. It employs the 2.5 liter Atkinson-Cycle I-4 Hybrid engine that is capable of attaining 156 Horse Power (HP) at 6000 rpms. Because it incorporates an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission (eCVT), there are no noticeable shift points as the computer adjusts gear ratios for greater fuel efficiency. Additionally, the MKZ includes a permanent magnet AC synchronous motor that comes into action at lower driving speeds and stop and go driving. An integrated regenerative braking system assists in charging the 275-volt Nickel-Metal-Hydride (NiMH) battery, and an electric power rack and pinion steering system allows for reliable steering.
The 2011 Lincoln MKZ Hybrid comes standard with 17-inch wheels, keyless entry, fog lights, power accessories, dual-zone climate control, cruise control, leather upholstery, tilt/telescoping steering column, heated/ventilated 10-way power seats with memory function and adjustable lumbar support (driver and passenger), Microsoft's Active Sync (for voice controls, navigation, Bluetooth, iPod/iPhone interface, and 911 assistance), automatic dimming rear-view mirror, premium radio with 9-speakers, and 6-disck CD changer.
The MKZ's standard safety features include: front and rear head airbags, 4-wheel ABS, dual front-side airbags, child seat anchors, antitheft alarm system, dusk sensing/auto-(delay) off headlamps, 2 front and 3 rear headrests, occupant sensing airbag switching, traction and stability control, seatbelt pre-tensioners, tire pressure monitoring, post collision safety system, and rear parking sensor system.
Four upgrade packages can be added to the MKZ Hybrid. The first is the Navigation package that includes 10GB of digital storage, HD radio with Sirius Travel Link, rear-view camera, and a blind-spot warning system. Along with the Navigation package, an upgraded THX surround sound system can also be added. A Sport Appearance package upgrades the standard 17-inch wheels to 18-inch polished alloy wheels and adds a tuned suspension system, aluminum interior trim with darkened exterior trim, and contrasting seat piping. The Executive package provides upgraded interior trim and leather upholstery. There are some stand-alone items such as 17-inch chrome-clad wheels, adaptive xenon headlights, sunroof, and rain-sensing wipers that can be added regardless of package selected.
Both the standard FWD and Hybrid variants of the MKZ cost around $34,330.00, and the AWD variant will run approximately $36,220.00. Lincoln's basic bumper-to-bumper warranty provides 4 years/50,000 miles (whichever comes first); however, additional warranties can be added. They offer a Drivetrain warranty of 6 years/70,000 miles, a Free Maintenance warranty of 3 years/45,000 miles, and a Roadside Assistance warranty of 6 years/70,000 miles.
The Lincoln MKZ Hybrid promises a comfortable and luxurious ride with the added benefit of fuel savings and reduced pollution. While there may be better vehicles available, the MKZ Hybrid is a good vehicle for the price.
